Iceland

Spent four days in Iceland recently... mainly in Reykjavik. Went on day trips around the Golden Circle and the Blue Lagoon... main reason was to see the Northern Lights. Alas, it was cloudy but did manage to see some green patches and some quite impressive white rays... as the guide said, 'Dancing lights'.

Celebs...

Was at the Museum of Everything on Saturday and saw:
1. Mark Owen with his family (2 kids plus partner)... in case the name didn't click... it's Mark from Take That... remember, the boyband from the 90s now having a massive revival?

2. John Galliano... he was with two male friends and looked amazing. His outfit was not OTT- he had a brown hat, dark coat with his usual trademark moustache and long hair BUT he smelled amazing. I wasn't stalking him, but he walked past me and I had a whiff of his cologne/perfume. Although his outfit wasn't very attention-grabbing, but he definitely had a great presence.

The Museum of Everything is showing an exhibition of Peter Blake's private collection of outsider art objects. It's part circus/cabinet of curiosity/art exhibition. Very cool and fun.

Vanessa Paradi's gig at Koko

Twas a lovely night and the venue was brilliant. It was an accoustic set and her band was great- composed of a string quartet, a drummer, a bass guitarist and another guitarist-cum-keyboard player who also did the arrangements for the songs (he was soooo good).

Morocco

Had a fantastic time in Morocco. Went on a guided tour with Nomadic Expeditions and met some lovely people'; our driver and guide, two Berbers both named Brahim, bunch of people from Australia, New Zealand, India, Italy and Hong Kong.... most of whom live in the UK.
Bought some lovely things too... but don't have any photos of them as my camera was ruined by the Saharan sand. Time to get a new camera!
Here's our route:
Marrakech-Dades Gorge (via the Roses Valley)-Todra Gorge- Erg Chebbl, Sahara Desert- Ait Ben Haddou-Ouarzazate- Marrakech.

For photos, go here.

Will try to write more soon....

Krakow

Photos taken in Krakow two weekends ago available here
The weather was amazing as I was actually expecting rain. Was very impressed with the food there. Good quality and very affordable! Ate lots of pierogi (Polish dumplings), had bigos (meat and cabbage stew) once and went to a few good vegetarian cafes. Well impressed!
Auschwitz-Birkenau was intense and very moving. Didn't take a lot of photos but the images will stay in my head...
The Salt Mine was so different. The air quality there is so still but somehow kind of refreshing as well. No photos to show, but will get some from Andrew's camera soon.

London Film Festival

Watched a few good movies at the festival:
At Ellen's Age I actually expected it to be a surreal movie, but it wasn't. It has a very strange and unexpected subplot on animal activism and communal living. It was a pleasant surprise but I somehow expected more. That's why it's bad to have preconceived notions of certain movies as it can ruin the experience.

Special Treatment Once again, Huppert's portrayal of complex but yet slightly vulnerable, charming but yet strangly distant female characters is just awe-inspiring. She was so effortless and unafraid to lay bare the weaknesses of the character albeit still carrying an enigmatic facade. The Q&A session with the director, Jeanne Labrune was superb. Insightful and it's so fun hearing the French talking about the writing process and acting methods... they have such passion and are amazing with words, so expressive and opinionated. Make me want to be ultra cool and smart like them.

Heartbeats My favourite out of the three movies. Xavier Dolan! I heart him, that's all I can say. Such lovely vision, directing, cinematography, costume design (Dolan did that too!) and lovely organic acting. He really is turning into a younger version of Wong Kar Wai. He has a very specific visual vision and also understands the use of a strong piece of music to convey the mood. **Blissful sighs*** ... it was pure ecstasy.

Oh, and this leads me to this lovely review of Wong Kar Wai's In The Mood For Love by Ryan Gilbey on the Guardian. I almost cried when I read it. Spot on!

Off to Krakow on Friday! Will post photos soon... hope I find some lovely things there :)

Origin: London Craft Fair

A few interesting things I saw at the Fair a couple of weeks ago... was very busy there. Surprisingly I didn't buy anything for myself, which either meant a) I was very obedient and restrained or b) that most things there were expensive and a little 'same-old, same-old'... more of the latter, I think.
